Search for new medical director failed

December 18, 2011

WILLEMSTAD — The St. Elisabeth Hospital (Sehos) will be placing advertisements again in Dutch newspapers and medical magazines for a new medical director, said board chairman Norbet Chaclin.

The first selection round only yielded three reactions of which two were from The Netherlands. The selection committee and the candidates were unable to reach an agreement. As current medical director Pieter van der Burgh will be leaving on December 31st, the Sehos is looking for an interim director very soon.

Chaclin regrets the hospital hasn’t found a replacement for Van der Burgh. “Time is running short. The current medical director will be leaving at the end of December and we urgently need a new director. To bridge the interim period, the board seeks a temporary replacement. Chaclin prefers a local person. “However, it is very difficult to find this person. The first selection round hadn’t yielded anyone from the island,” said Chaclin. The board then approached a local professional in the public health, who had subsequently applied. The negotiations were at an advanced stage but eventually the parties had to halt these because of a different view on the hospital policy. The hospital has given up their search for a successor of Van der Burgh on the local market. The first advertisements were placed in The Netherlands and on Curaçao, but local reactions remained forthcoming.

The first advertisements for the second selection round will appear in Dutch papers next week. The medical staff of the Sehos and the board is diligently seeking an interim medical director who is to assume the responsibility for the medical policy and hospital personnel for a period of three to four months. The hospital is also looking for a financial-economic director. The current financial director, Erwin Croes, will be leaving for Aruba around February for personal reasons. His contract was to expire in September 2010 but in consultation with the hospital board, it was decided to terminate this earlier.
