Government rents equipment to produce license plates

December 12, 2011

WILLEMSTAD — The Curaçao government reached an agreement with SMJ Promotional Products to rent equipment to print license plates and semi-finished products to produce these license plates. The rental of the two machines involves a three-year contract and an amount of 26,400 guilders per year.Minister of Finance George ‘Jorge’ Jamaloodin (MFK) and the owner/director of SMJ Regis Fraai signed the contract. The agreement results from the decision of the then Board of Governors of Curaçao in January 2009 to grant SMJ the project and from a tender held in December 2008 when companies were requested to provide the license plates and aftercare for the island territory Curaçao. The rental involves a press and a coating machine for the license plates. The duration of the contract is three years and the rent is 26,400 guilders per year, which amounts to almost 80,000 guilders in three years. The government has committed themselves to pay the rental amount in monthly installments.

For that matter, the rental amount includes maintenance and service of the machines. Repair costs, which are visibly due to negligent use by the government, will be invoiced separately. The rental contract does not include the ink for the machines. Upon request, SMJ will present the government a quotation to purchase such. SMJ will arrange for shipment of the semi-finished products, required to produce the license plates, against 5.26 guilders each. In conformity with the contract as agreed by both parties, SMJ will train two co-workers of the government department Public Works (DOW) to operate the machines against payment of 4,500 guilders. This amount is due upon completion of their training.
