To make sure everyone is on the same wavelength regarding the development of Curaçao Airport City, Klauspeter Nüesch of Nüesch Development and Simon Kloppenburg – who has an advisory task within Curaçao Airport Holding (CAH) to develop the project – held a workshop,” says Abdul Nasser El Hakim (MFK), the Minister of Economic Development.
Besides Rudy Sprock, chairman of the board of the Board of Commissioners (RvA), the financial manager of CAH and the commissioners participated with the workshop. As owner of the airport, CAH is primarily responsible for supervising the implementation of the standards and arrangements in the Development, Operations & Maintenance Agreement (DOMA) and responsible for the development of the 450-hectare area around the airport. With the development of Curaçao Airport City, Minister El Hakim wants to attract investors from South America and Europe and subsequently realize collaboration. “One must consider that the island’s ideal location is of ‘added value’. The companies have shown their interest in a connection with Curaçao to accelerate the transport. By using innovative technologies such as SWAC (Seawater Air Conditioning) and unique attractions, Curaçao Airport City will be a good alternative for Panama, Miami and Cuba,” Minister El Hakim said on the intended effect of the project. He thinks Curaçao Airport City will serve the market as regards the business and entertainment sector, including the construction of a hotel, restaurants, shops and a casino. “It’s time to realize this idea,” says Minister El Hakim.
